The Wandelpad starts or ends (depending on which way you walk) at the R43 road bridge. The memorial park was established in 2004. Most of the 50-plus trees and benches are tributes to Stanford residents or family members. The benches offer a place to contemplate the scenic pastoral ambiance and appreciate the magnificent views of the Klein River Mountain range.
This area is a popular meeting place of dog walkers. Whilst the dogs run around and socialise, the owners catch up on the local happenings.
Maybe you noticed the heaps of sand scattered around the area. These belong to the common mole rat (Cryptomys Hottentotus), the size of dassie.
The Klein River makes a sharp 90-degree bend at Kingfisher bend – so named because of the kingfisher nesting burrows in the opposite embankment.
If you have not experienced it, it is hard to believe that most of the area is under water when there is a severe flood.
